Until this moment, everything looks good.

All the problems arise when Govee and Amazon Alexa lose their connection and the light begins not to respond to your voice assistant.

In this blog article, we’re gonna see the solutions that we can implement when your Govee lights aren’t responding to Alexa, so keep reading.

How To Repair Govee Lights Not Responding To Alexa?

Your Govee Light loses its connection with Alexa for many reasons, including an expired Internet subscription, Wifi frequency issues, obsolete firmware, and internal problems with the app.

So let’s see how we can manage all these problems and put this integration into work as before.

Solution 1: Check Your Internet Subscription.

Your internet subscription is the first thing you need to check because the Alexa app relies on the Internet to do its job, otherwise, the devices will not respond to its commands.

You can check if your internet subscription has expired with your Internet service provider.

Solution 2: Power Cycle Your Router.

If your Internet hasn’t expired and it works normally on other devices, I suggest that you restart your router to try to solve existing connectivity issues.

Restarting your router will clean out the device’s short-term memory to keep it running more smoothly.

It can also fix certain Internet connectivity issues, from no Internet connectivity to slow wireless connections.

If the root cause of your problem is connectivity issues this process can be beneficial when your Govee lights aren’t responding to Alexa.

Solution 3: Restart The Alexa App.

The cause of your issue can also come from the Alexa app itself, in this case, I recommend restarting this app from the device you use which can be your phone or tablet.

Restarting the Alexa app can fix errors and bugs that occur with the app that leads to problems such as the one you have with the Govee lights.

To restart your Alexa app, you first need to force the application to stop, then launch it again.

Here’s how to force stop the Alexa app on an IOS device:

  1. To quit the app, open the App Switcher, swipe right to find the Alexa app, then swipe up on it.
  2. If you are on iOS 11, tap and hold the app instead of swiping it away. When the red minus symbol appears on the app card, tap it to quit the app.

And here are the steps to follow on Android:

  1. Open the Settings app on an Android device.
  2. Scroll the list and tap Apps, Applications or Manage apps.
  3. Scroll the list to find the Alexa app to force quit.
  4. Tap FORCE STOP.

Now open the Alexa app and see if it works normally with your Govee lights, if not proceed to the next solution.

Solution 4: Power Cycle Your Alexa-enabled Device.

Power cycle the device you’re using Alexa from such as your phone, tablet, or Echo smart speakers and displays.

This can be a great solution to fix this issue because these devices can sometimes face problems due to internal firmware errors.

To power cycle your Echo speaker or display you have to unplug the power cord from the wall socket, wait for 1 or 2 minutes and then plug it back.

Do the same if you use Alexa from your smartphone and tablet, turn them off for 60 seconds, then turn them on.

Now go and test if your Govee lights are responding to Amazon Alexa commands or not, if they don’t move on to the next solution.

Solution 5: Update Your Mobile Apps (Alexa & Govee).

Govee and Amazon regularly publish new updates for their apps to keep them running smoothly and improve their performance and avoid issues that affect the user experience.

If your apps aren’t updated, this could be the reason why Govee isn’t responding to Alexa commands, so you have to update them to fix this problem.

Here’s how to update the Govee & Alexa app on Android:

  1. Open the Google Play Store app.
  2. Tap Menu, then my apps & games.
  3. Find the app you want to update (Govee or Alexa).
  4. Tap Update.

And here’s how to update it on IOS devices:

  1. Go to the App Store.
  2. At the bottom right of the screen, tap Search.
  3. Tap your account.
  4. Find the app you want to update (Govee or Alexa).
  5. Tap Update.

Solution 6: Reset Your Router.

Factory resetting your router can also be effective in solving your internet connection problems which can be helpful in fixing Govee and Alexa connection problems.

A router reset can clear memory, which is critical for those who have several devices or an older router, it can also repair slow internet speed and also interference problems.

Here’s how to reset your router:

  1. Locate the Reset button on the back of your router.
  2. With the router powered on, use the pointed end of a paperclip to press and hold the Reset button for 15 seconds.
  3. Wait for the router to fully reset and power back on.

Note: Make sure to update the Wifi password on the Alexa and Govee apps if you changed it during the router reset process.

Solution 7: Connect To The 2.4 GHz channel.

Your Govee light, whether lamps or strips, only works on the 2.4 GHz frequency and doesn’t support the 5 GHz channel like many other smart home devices.

So if you have a dual-band router, be sure to turn off 5GHz when setting up the Govee lights to allow them to properly connect to your Wifi.

Note: I also recommend not putting too many devices that operate on the 2.4GHz channel next to your Govee lights to avoid Wifi interference.

Solution 8: Reinstall Your Govee Lights on Alexa.

The last solution you can do if all the previous ones didn’t work with you is to remove the Govee light from the Alexa app and then set it up again.

Here’s how to delete your Govee light from Alexa:

  1. Open the Alexa app.
  2. Select Devices.
  3. Go to lights and select your Govee light.
  4. Then go to the device Settings.
  5. Then select Trash.

After that go and reinstall your light again and here’s a detailed article on how to do that: “Govee Lights & Alexa (Integration Guide)”.
