Sengled light bulbs

Due to the benefits offered by smart light bulbs, their market is growing rapidly and it’s expected to exceed 27 billion USD by 2026 and a lot of brands are sharing this market.

Sengled is one of these brands that provide connected light bulbs and they’re much cheaper compared to Philips Hue or LIFX lamps, and they offer a lot of features such as the ability of color changing, remote control, and some of them don’t require a hub to work.

The Sengled bulbs can last 25.000 hours and are compatible with Alexa to give you the possibility to control your lamp via voice commands like changing the color, brightness, or turning it On and Off.

Sometimes these bulbs lose their connection to Alexa so you can’t control it from the Alexa app on your mobile or from your Amazon Echo smart speaker and this is our topic in this article.

How to fix the Sengled bulb connectivity issue with Alexa?

There are many solutions we can implement when the Sengled light bulb is not connecting to Alexa and we’re going to explain them all step by step in the following sections of this article.

Make sure wall switches are On.

When you turn off the light from a traditional switch all the power will be cut off and your Sengled lamps won’t connect until you’ve flipped the switch back up.

So before doing anything go and check them and try to avoid turning your lights On and Off from the wall switches.

Check your internet connection.

The Sengled bulbs need an internet connection to allow you to manage it via Alexa voice assistant, so go and check your internet connection on your computer or smartphone and make sure that your connection works well and your subscription hasn’t expired.

Check Amazon smart speaker or your smartphone.

Amazon Echo Dot

If you’re using Alexa on your smart speaker try to do something else like turning on the TV or changing the temperature to make sure that the problem is coming only from the Sengled bulbs.

Do the same thing if you’re trying to control these bulbs with your smartphone by doing a web search or surfing on Facebook or whatever.

Reboot your Sengled bulbs.

Rebooting your Sengled smart bulbs may fix the issue and bring it back to connect with your voice assistant. Follow the next steps to reboot it:

  1. switch off the Smart light bulbs (do it from the wall switches or unplug the power cord).
  2. Turn off the device you’re controlling the Sengled bulbs from (smart speaker, tablet, or mobile phone).
  3. Wait at least 30 seconds.
  4. Then turn On your Sengled bulbs and the device you’re controlling from.
  5. Finally try to control it again from the Alexa app.

Reset Sengled bulbs.

resetting your Sengled bulbs is a great idea if the previous solutions don’t work with your Alexa, in order to reset it follow the next instructions:

  1. Turn the Light Off and On 10 to 20 times depending on the model you have (do it from the switch).
  2. When the bulb is blinking and going through its color set that means the bulb is reset.

Put the frequency on 2.4Ghz.

The Sengled bulbs work on 2.4Ghz and so your internet has to be on this frequency if you have a dual-band Wifi that includes 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz which is the case for the newest models you have to turn Off the 5Ghz during the setup process.

After setting up the bulb you can turn the 5Ghz frequency back on.

Power cycle the router.

I always recommend power cycling the router or modem when you face connectivity issues I personally do it in my house when one of my connected gadgets doesn’t work.

All you have to do is to follow the next steps:

  1. Unplug the router or modem.
  2. Wait around 60 seconds.
  3. Plug back the router.

Reboot your Sengled hub.

You can add a Sengled hub to manage a large number of bulbs (up to 64 lamps) from your smartphone or smart speaker and this hub is compatible with Alexa, so rebooting this hub may allow you to reconnect Alexa to your smart lights.

Reset the router.

resetting the router also stay a good solution to implement in case you can’t control your Sengled bulbs through Alexa voice assistant. Do the following instructions in order to reset your router:

  1. Pick a paperclip.
  2. Open the paperclip to hold down the reset button at the back of your router.
  3. Wait for 30 seconds then release the button.

Resetting your router will give a stronger connection to your gadgets and improve the network speed while allowing the router to re-select the least crowded channel for each frequency.

Change the router location:

Maybe your Alexa-enabled device or Sengled lamp is not getting enough WiFi signal to work, so make sure you place your router in the right place to allow each device to have the connection.

If you live in a big house you can add an extender like “NETGEAR” or set up a mesh network by installing devices like “Google mesh“.

Contact technical support.

If you’re facing any issue with your internet and you don’t know how to solve it call the ISP (Internet Service Provider).

And if the problem comes from your bulb call the Sengled customer support you can find their contact info on their website.

Conclusion.

These are all the tips you can implement to reconnect your Sengled smart lights to Alexa voice-assistant, if all of them don’t work, that means the issue may come from your bulbs, so you can buy a new one or contact customer support to change the light if the warranty is still alive.
