Many users of this smart bulb ask if it can work with SmartThings Hub? Of course, the Samsung SmartThings hub connects wirelessly to all your home devices, including Sengled Smart Zigbee bulbs, this hub will also give you the option to receive notifications when set conditions are met, such as the lights change color when someone is ringing at the door.

The main topic of this article is to show you how to connect your Sengled light bulbs to Samsung SmartThings Hub directly from the mobile app.

What do you need to know before connecting you Sengled bulb to SmartThings Hub?

According to the manufacturer website you have to ensure that some conditions are met before jumping into the connection process, and here are the conditions you need to know:

  • Make sure that your SmartThings hub is at least three feet away from your router in order to avoid interference issues with the router.
  • Make sure the Sengled smart bulb is within fifteen feet of your hub.
  • The Insecure Rejoin is disabled by default on the SmartThings app so go and turn OFF the Secure Mode to ensure that ZigBee insecure rejoin is enabled.
  • Make sure to not use Sengled bulbs on dimmer switches including in-wall dimmers, ceiling fan lights, and 3-way lights (lamps with built-in low, medium, and high power settings).
  • Sengled Smart LED bulbs are not intended for use in fully enclosed fixtures and outdoor use.

Note: Sengled Smart LED Tunable White A19 bulbs can be used on certain wall dimmers and Sengled Smart LED with Motion Sensor PAR38 bulbs are designed to be used outdoors.

Connect Sengled Smart Bulbs to SmartThings Hub from “SmartThings Classic app”.

In the SmartThings Classic app, the Secure Mode is turned OFF by default so the Insecure Rejoin is enabled and you don’t need to change it manually.

Now you need to follow the instructions below carefully in order to connect your smart bulb with the Hub:

  1. Make sure your Sengled bulbs are powered on from a non-dimmer switch.
  2. Open the SmartThings Classic app on your mobile or tablet (the app logo is white with a blue circle).
  3. In the Home app tap the “My Home” button that you can find at the footer of the screen.
  4. Then click on the “+” icon in the top right corner.
  5. Wait a few seconds until your SmartThings Hub search finds your Sengled bulb.
  6. You can also tap the blue button at the bottom of the screen to add your lamp manually.
  7. You can rename the bulb if you want by tapping “Rename Device”.
  8. Tap Save in the top right corner.
  9. A popup message will appear, click OK to confirm.

Now all your Sengled Smart bulbs will appear on the My Home page you can tap on it to turn it ON and OFF, adjust the brightness, also see all your recent actions.

Connect Sengled Smart Bulbs to SmartThings Hub from the “SmartThings app”.

In the SmartThings app the Secure Mode is turned ON by default so the Insecure Rejoin is disabled, here’s how to enable it:

  1. Launch the SmartThings app on an Android or IOS device.
  2. Select “Devices”, then tap on your SmartThings hub.
  3. Switch the “Security mode” off to ensure that if the Sengled Smart LED bulbs or SmartThings hub loses power, the bulbs can rejoin without issue.

After that you have to follow the steps below to connect your Sengled lights on the SmartThings app:

  1. Make sure your bulbs are powered on from a non-dimmer switch.
  2. Open the SmartThings app on your mobile or tablet.
  3. Tap the “+” button on the main page.
  4. A list of choices will appear, tap “Add device”.
  5. Search for the Sengled logo and tap on it.
  6. Then tap on “Light bulb” and choose the hub to which you wish to add bulbs, then tap Next.
  7. Press “Add new room”, select the room you want to add, and tap Next.
  8. Another screen will appear to allow you to rename the room and change wallpaper if you want, then tap Save.
  9. Then select the room and press Next to continue.
  10. The SmartThings hub will search for the Sengled Smart bulbs.
  11. Once all of your bulbs are discovered, press “Done”.

How to add a scene on the SmarThings app?

According to the manufacturer, Scenes present an easy way to control when certain automation are active. Think of Scenes as behavior filters for your home. You can change how your bulbs act or behave in your home based on the Scene you are in.

Here’s how to add scenes in the “SmartThings classic app”:

  1. Tap the My Home button at the footer of the SmartThings app.
  2. Choose Scenes at the top of the screen.
  3. Scroll down and tap Add a Scene.
  4. Choose the Sengled bulb you want to use with the scene and tap Next.
  5. Name your Scene and tap Save.

Now we’re gonna see how to add a scene on the “SmartThings app”:

  1. On the home screen, tap the Menu icon (3 horizontal bars on the left)
  2. Tap Scenes, then Add Scenes.
  3. Enter a name for the Scene and add Actions.
  4. Tap Control a device and select your Sengled light bulb.
  5. Tap Save, then the device will be shown on the dashboard.

How to automate your Sengled light bulbs in the SmartThing app?

Automating your Sengled lights will make you more energy efficient and reduce your bills while it will add more convenience to your smart home.

Here are the steps to implement on your “SmartThings classic app” in order to automate your Sengled bulbs:

  1. Open the SmartThings Classic app on your mobile or tablet.
  2. Tap on the Automation button at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Select SmartApps at the top, then press Add a SmartApp.
  4. Now choose Lights & Switches, then select Smart Lights at the top of the list.
  5. Activate the Scene you want to automate.
  6. Now tap on “How do you want to trigger the action?” (this option give you a lot of option on how the action should be triggered).
  7. You can continue adjusting the option related to how you want to trigger the action, then click Next.
  8. Another screen will appear giving you the possibility to name your Automation, then Tap Save.
  9. Now your lighting automation is perfectly installed.

And here are the instructions to follow to install smart lighting automation on the “SmartThings app”:

  1. From the Home screen, swipe up or down to access the Apps screen. Touch the Samsung folder and then touch SmartThings.
  2. From the Automations tab, touch ADD AUTOMATION (on iOS, touch the + icon). If an Automation already exists, touch ADD.
  3. If you have more than one location, select the desired location.
  4. Touch Smart Lights > New Lighting Automation, and then follow the on-screen prompts to create the new lighting automation using your Sengled bulbs.

How to create a Routine of your Sengled Bulbs on the SmartThings app.

In this section, I will show you how to add a routine on both the “SmartThings app” and the “SmartThings Classic app”.

In the SmartThings app:

  1. Open the SmartThings app on your smartphone or tablet.
  2. Tap Automations, then Under Routines tap Add a Routine.
  3. Choose What do you want to do?
  4. Enter the name of your new routine.
  5. Configure What do you want to happen? (Turn Sengled lights on or off)
  6. Under Additional Settings, choose when to perform the action: when someone arrives or leaves, at a certain time, or based on motion.
  7. Tap Done to save your configuration, then Done again to complete.

In the SmartThings Classic app:

  1. Open the SmartThings classic app on your mobile or tablet.
  2. Go to Automation, then choose Routines at the top of the screen.
  3. Scroll down and select Add a Routine.
  4. Give this Routine a name and select Next.
  5. Choose what you want to happen (activate a scene, turn ON these lights or switches..), then tap Save.
  6. Now your Routine is perfectly installed.
