Smart doorbells are an interesting device that you can add to your front door to enhance home security, protect your deliveries, and detect unwanted visitors.

The Eufy company provides high-quality doorbells that have a battery that can last up to 180 days, it also offers a 2K video resolution, AI human detection, motion detection, and many more other options.

These doorbells rely on the Wifi to work effectively and a lot of you are asking if the Eufy doorbells will work without internet?

The answer is yes it will continue to ring on the chime or the HomeBase depending on the models you have and record video locally on a micro SD card but it will lose all of its smart features that differentiate her from a traditional doorbell.

In this article, we’re going to show you all features that will continue to work and don’t work with your Eufy doorbell when the internet is down.

Features that will continue to work.

As we said before, the Eufy doorbell will not lose all its functionality, here we are going to show what will continue to work when the internet goes down.

  • Hear it locally when someones ring: Some models will use their own indoor chime and other models will rely on the HomeBase speaker as a chime. and both of these options will continue to work when there is no internet inside your home, allowing you to hear people when they are in front of your door.
  • Store videos locally: All doorbells offered by Eufy will continue to record and store videos locally due to their micro SD card that can be plugged on the doorbell, chime, or the HomeBase depending on the models you have.

All these recordings can not be accessed until the internet goes back which is considered a disadvantage by Eufy customers.

But this option may change in the future as computer scientists are saying that designing models that allow users to access their recorded videos locally when the doorbell and the Eufy Security app are connected to the same local network would be something easy and possible.

Some models support a 4 GB card and some support 16 GB. So you should consider deleting some footage when the SD card is full in order to allow doorbells to continue recording.

Features that will not work.

As we have some features that will continue to work when the internet is down, we have some that will not work and they are known as smart features and we will talk about them in the following sections.

  • Remote monitoring and device control: The Eufy doorbells work side by side with their mobile app called “Eufy Security” and it’s available on the Play Store and Apple Store.

This app is used for many purposes such as controlling and managing your doorbell remotely, receiving motion alert notifications, and also accessing the camera to see what’s happening in front of your door.

All these features depend on a stable internet connection so if your Wifi is turned off and or your internet is down it will be impossible for you to access these options.
  • Echo devices will not work: The Eufy doorbell can be connected to Alexa Echo devices such as “Echo Dot” or “Echo Show” and use them as a chime or to receive notifications or to see the live stream, but the Echo devices rely 100% on the internet and they’ll not be able to work when the internet is down.
  • Google Nest Hub: According to Eufy, Google Nest Hub can only support Voice Triggered Live Streaming. and they are working on the remaining functions like Two-way speaking, voice prompt and auto live streaming when the doorbell is ringing.

But also all these functionalities will not be accessible without a stable connection because the Nest Hub is reliant on the internet to operate.
  • Cloud Storage: The Eufy doorbell offers a cloud subscription that starts at 2.99$ per month or 9.99/month, it allows you to store the recorded video on the cloud and access them anytime you want and from anywhere on the planet.

But Also this feature relies on the internet and the doorbell can not upload video on the cloud unless it has access to the internet and also the app needs to be connected to be able to see, download or share these videos.
  • Audio feedback: When you’re not at home and someone rings your Eufy doorbell you can receive a push notification on your phone, then access it and talk with this person remotely due to the microphone and the speaker on the device, but also this option depends on a stable connection and can not function without it.

Use cellular data to run your Eufy doorbell.

The home Wifi is the best and the easy way for most people to run their doorbells, Home network is generally faster than your regular cellular data and it has a stable and secure connection.

But if you don’t have a Home internet it doesn’t mean you can not use a video doorbell, the smartphone can share a 3G or 4G network which can be used to run your Eufy doorbell.

There are some disadvantages with cellular data like fluctuation of internet connection when you’re hanging close to the doorbell camera.

Also, the amount of processing that is done by the video doorbell can increase internet charges so it’s more expensive compared to a monthly home Wifi subscription.

You can also use a Wifi hotspot that uses wireless data from a cellular provider to give internet access to your Eufy smart video doorbell.

Here’s how to connect the Wifi hotspot to your Eufy doorbell:

  1. Setup the Wifi hotspot.
  2. Make sure that the doorbell and the app are connected to the same hotspot.
  3. Go to the Eufy Security app.
  4. Go to “My Devices” and select your doorbell.
  5. Tap on the setting icon next to your doorbell, Then select “connection”.
  6. Select your hotspot and put the password and click Next.
  7. Wait a few seconds then your doorbell will be connected.

Final Words.

The Eufy doorbell is considered one of the best smart video doorbells on the market, and I really don’t recommend using it without an internet connection, cellular data are good to use at the beginning but with time I advise you to get a home internet subscription.
