7 Steps To Fix Wyze Not Scanning QR Code.

While setting up the Wyze camera and doorbell and exactly after inserting your password information, the app asks you to scan the QR code which is something easy to do, but many people face too many problems in this phase and the Wyze device will not scan the QR code.

In this blog post, we are going to show you some tips and solutions to easily respond to QR code scanning issues and connect your Wyze camera and doorbell.

How to fix the Wyze camera and doorbell not scanning QR code?

Solution 1: Clean the camera lens.

QR code consists of a lot of black modules (square dots) which are fixed up in a square pattern on a white background so you need a clean lens to scan it.

use a soft cloth, or tissue to keep your camera lens clean and help avoid potential issues with the mechanics of the focus and zoom mechanisms. Also, make sure to remove the protective tape on the lens if it has one.

Solution 2: Clean your mobile screen.

The QR code will display on your smartphone and you’ll scan it with your Wyze cam or doorbell, so confirm that the phone screen is very clean and there’s no dirt on it.

A cracked screen can also be a problem because when you align your phone’s camera to scan the QR code, the sensor and decoder work to decode the QR code, then the decoder sends information to your phone (and this process may not work with a cracked screen).

Here’s how to scan a QR code with a cracked screen:

  1. Take a screenshot of the QR code.
  2. Send the screenshot to a family member’s smartphone.
  3. Open the screenshot on his phone.
  4. Use your Wyze device to scan the code.

Note: You can also print the QR code screenshot and then scan it with your Wyze gadget.

Solution 3: Adjust the brightness & respect distance.

Increase the brightness on your smartphone screen to make sure the camera can scan the QR code and also do the operation in a bright environment.

If you’ve already made the lighting brighter but the QR code still isn’t scanning, make sure that a shadow isn’t falling on the QR code. This can often happen when you move your camera in to scan the code.

The distance is also important as QR codes have a minimum radius of 25 cm (10 in), which then scales up depending on the size of the QR Code (in the case of the Wyze code Hold your phone about 5 to 8 inches away from the Wyze cam & doorbell and make sure that code is facing the cam).

When you’re moving the camera to scan the code hold still at the new distance for 5 seconds to give it the time to focus at the new distance.

Solution 4: Respect the QR code life span.

The Qr code that appears on the Wyze app is dynamic so it has an expiration time that’s estimated at 5 minutes after being generated, if the code isn’t scanned within this period your camera will refuse it until you generate a new one.

Solution 5: Update the firmware.

Firmware refers to the software your camera uses to operate and when it’s outdated your camera may find some difficulties working or scanning the QR code, here’s how to update it:

  1. Open the Wyze app on your mobile or tablet.
  2. Select your Wyze Video Doorbell or your Wyze camera.
  3. Click on the Settings gear, then Device Information.
  4. Tap Firmware Version.
  5. Click on Update if you have the option.

Solution 6: Reset your Wyze cam or doorbell.

If all previous solutions didn’t help you scan your code go and reset your device and set it up again, A factory reset is always considered a good troubleshooting solution.

Here’s how to scan your devices:

Wyze Doorbell:

  1. Connect the doorbell to power.
  2. Press the Reset button on the back of the doorbell(No need to press and hold).

Wyze Cam v1:

  1. Power the cam.
  2. Hold down the setup key for 20 seconds.
  3. Wait until the yellow light flashes, then begin the setup process.

Wyze Cam v2 or a Wyze Cam Pan v1:

  1. Hold down the setup key for 10 seconds.
  2. Wait until the yellow light flashes, then begin the setup process.

Wyze Cam v3 or a Wyze Cam Pan v2:

  1. Hold down the setup key for 10 seconds while powered on to reset the camera.
  2. Wait until the red/blue light flashes, then begin the setup process.

Solution 7: contact customer support.

This is the last solution with us and you can try it only when the all previous solution didn’t work with you. Contact customer support on their website through the live chat or their phone number to check if there’s no problem with the QR code or the camera’s hardware.
