5 Ways To Fix Kasa Camera Not Recording/Working.

The TP-Link company provides Kasa indoor and outdoor cameras with very powerful features to help you secure and protect your home from intruders while monitoring your pets and allowing you to watch what is happening inside and outside your house remotely from your smartphone or tablet.

These cameras are equipped with Full HD cameras (some of them offer 2K resolution) with night vision, a microphone, and a speaker to talk with people inside your home, they also have the ability to send you alerts to your phone when sound or motion is detected, they can store recorded clips in the cloud or on a microSD card.

Some users reported that the Kasa camera sometimes won’t record and they are unable to figure out the source of the problem and how to solve it.

This issue can occur due to many reasons such as disabled recording settings, low motion sensitivity, power source issues, and connectivity issues. Sometimes the Kasa camera is recording and you cannot watch the recorded footage due to an expired subscription or no SD card on the camera.

How to fix the Kasa camera not recording?

In the following sections of this article, we’re going to teach you how to get your camera back to work and record as it was at the beginning or better, all you need to do is to follow our solutions step by step and test your gadget after each fix attempts.

Solution 1: Enable the recording motion feature.

Generally speaking, the Kasa cam starts to record clips each time a motion is detected and this function is enabled by default in the app settings, but if you notice that your camera is not recording go and take a look at the setting maybe it’s disabled.

Follow these instructions to enable the motion recording feature:

  1. Open the Kasa app on your smartphone or tablet.
  2. Select the camera you want to edit.
  3. Tap on the Settings icon at the top right corner of the screen.
  4. scroll down and tap on “Privacy and Sensitivity”.
  5. Then under privacy tap on “Record Video and Audio” to enable this feature.

Note: Ensure that your sensitivity level is set to any region to the right half of the bar, increased sensitivity results in more recordings and notifications and lower sensitivity results in fewer recordings and alerts.

Solution 2: Fix your internet connection.

Kasa cameras depend on the internet to store recorded footage on the cloud and send you notifications when motion or sound is detected and if the internet is not available or your device is not able to connect and the clips can’t be uploaded to the cloud and sent to your mobile. So make sure to fix your connectivity issues to get your gadget back to work.

Here’s an article that I already wrote and will lead you through all that you need to do to connect your camera to your Wifi again: “8 Ways to fix Kasa cam connectivity issues“.

Solution 3: Renew your cloud subscription.

Kasa Care is a cloud-based service provided by TP-Link for Kasa cam users, it provides many services such as 30 Days of video history, manual clip recording, video sharing, and activity notifications with snapshots.

Models that do not have the ability to store videos locally on a microSD card need this subscription to upload them to the cloud and allow the camera to store recorded footage.

Unless you have a camera with a local storage feature, your subscription must be renewed when it expires or you cannot watch the videos recorded by your Kasa camera.

Solution 4: Check the power source.

If you use a Kasa cam model that runs on a battery like the “KC300S2” and the batteries are down the camera will not record and many other issues will occur such as connectivity issues, so make sure to replace the batteries with their respective. The Kasa cam KC300S2 model requires 2 Lithium-ion batteries.

While other versions of the Kasa smart cameras rely on a power adapter that is plugged into the wall outlet so if there’s an issue in the power adapter or the outlet the gadget will not get the required power to work properly.

So try to plug the device into another socket and see if it’s back to work, make sure to use the original power adapter and check that there are no cable breaks.

Solution 5: Reset the Kasa cam.

A Factory Reset removes all user data and recorded videos from the camera and reverts it back to default settings, or to be more exact, returns it to the way it was when you first purchased the device. This troubleshooting solution may fix bugs and glitches and get your Kasa cam back to work.

Here’s how to reset it:

  1. Make sure that your camera is powered on.
  2. Launch the Kasa app.
  3. Tap on Devices at the bottom left of the screen.
  4. Choose your camera, then click on the setting icon at the top right corner of the screen.
  5. Tap the Remove Device button at the bottom of the page, A popup message will appear tap on Remove Device again.

What if the Kasa cam is recording but I don’t receive notifications?

Sometimes the camera records videos and stores them to the cloud or microSD card, but the problem is only that you do not receive notifications when you a clip is recorded or a motion is detected, this problem can be easily solved in the camera settings.

Here’s how to enable the notification feature:

  1. Launch the Kasa app on your smartphone or tablet.
  2. Tap on your camera and go to the device settings.
  3. Click on Notifications, then enable Activity Notifications.

In the notifications feature, you can limit the number of alerts you receive to no more than one notification per five minutes regardless of the activity.

Final words.

Finally, I hope that the solutions provided in this article help you fix your Kasa camera when it’s not working, for additional information or hardware issues you can contact TP-Link customer support on their website.
