4 Methods To Watch The YI Camera On Your Computer.

Our home security and surveillance is important to all of us, no matter how safe our neighborhood is. and one of the devices that have gained popularity in recent years is the YI camera.

The YI camera is considered an Amazon best-seller due to its smart features that attract a lot of buyers such as AI detection including sound, vehicle, animal and person detection, also 1080p camera with night vision, cloud & local storage, and compatibility with Alexa and Google Assistant.

We know that smart home cameras can be accessed from the app on our smartphones and tablets to watch recorded clips and see live feeds but users are wondering if they can do the same thing from their PC or Mac and how?

The answer is yes, and there are many methods to watch YI camera footage on your computer, such as downloading the YI Home app for PC and Mac, casting phone screen to computer, installing an Android emulator or copying recorded images stored on the SD card to your PC or Mac.

How do I watch the YI home camera on my computer?

As we said before, there are many ways to watch the clips recorded by your YI camera and we will explain all of them in the next sections of this article, then you can choose the easiest one for you.

Solution 1: Download the YI Home App for PC or Mac.

YI has developed an application, especially for those who want to watch the footage recorded by the camera on a computer and they have made two versions one for Windows and another one for Mac.

This app lets you view the live feed and cloud footage from all your cams, your motion and sound detected clips appear in chronological order (Up to 9 cameras can be viewed on one screen at the same time).

Here’s how to download and access the app:

Note: If you own a Mac you have the choice to download the app directly from the App Store or follow the same instructions as we do with Windows.

  1. Go to this website: www.yitechnology.com
  2. Go to support in the top bar and choose “Firmware & App”.
  3. Scroll down and find “YI Home App for Mac or Windows PC”.
  4. Tap on the Download button.
  5. Once the app is downloaded click on it and log in to your YI account.
  6. Your cameras will appear on the left of the platform (just double-click them to see the live feed).

Important: The YI Home computer app is used only to watch live view and recorded clips not to change settings.

Solution 2: Upload the footage stored on your SD card.

The second solution is easier than the first one and it’s available for people who are using local storage (storing clips on an SD card, not on the cloud), this method requires you to upload the footage stored on the SD card on your computer then watch it directly using a video player.

Here are the steps in detail:

  1. Take the SD card off the camera.
  2. Put it on a micro SD card reader.
  3. Plug the micro SD card reader on your computer.
  4. Then access and view the files using a media player.

Solution 3: Cast your phone or tablet screen to your computer.

Casting your smartphone and tablet screen lets you mirror the device to the computer so you can enjoy your content exactly as you see it on your mobile device, but on a larger screen.

This method will allow you to watch the live view and all your YI captured clips on your computer, but first, you need to access it on your phone or tablet and cast the screen to your computer.

Note: Casting your Phone or tablet to your computer requires you to have an internet connection.

Here’s how to cast an Android device:

  1. Go to Settings and search for “cast”, then click the search result.
  2. Select Cast, then Tap the 3 dots on the top right corner and tick mark “Enable Wireless Display”.
  3. Your PC Device name should now appear, Tap on it.
  4. Your Android display will now be cast to your PC.
  5. Go to your YI Home app and access the footage or live view and it will appear on your computer.

And here’s how to cast the IOS device:

  1. Go to your iPhone or iPad and open the control center.
    • On iPhone X or later or iPad with iPadOS 13 or later: Swipe down from the upper-right corner of the screen.
    • On iPhone 8 or earlier or iOS 11 or earlier: Swipe up from the bottom edge of the screen.
  2. Tap Screen Mirroring.
  3. Select your Apple TV or AirPlay 2-compatible smart TV.
  4. If an AirPlay passcode appears on your TV screen or Mac, enter the passcode on your iPhone or iPad.
  5. Now go to the live feed or recorded clips on your Blink app to watch them on your TV.

Solution 4: Watch YI cam using an android emulator.

This trick requires you to download an Android emulator to access and watch the YI cam from Windows or Mac, I recommend using Bluestacks which is a tool that allows you to run YI Home Android apps on your computer and it is compatible with both Mac and Windows systems.

Follow the instructions below to access your YI camera from the Bluestacks emulator:

  1. Open your web browser on Windows or Mac.
  2. Then go to this website: bluestacks.com
  3. from this website download BlueStacks and install it on your PC just like you do with any other application.
  4. Once installed, Open the BlueStacks on the computer.
  5. Click on the Play Store and log in to your Google Play account.
  6. Then search for the YI Home app and install it.
  7. Once the app is installed on BlueStacks, click on it and log in to your account.
  8. Then tap on your YI Cam on the app and the live stream will appear.

Final words.
