People want to connect their devices to Google Home for many reasons, including managing all their home devices from one platform, controlling their gadgets using their voice, and creating routines to get multiple tasks done automatically.

One of the most asked questions about the YI Security Camera is its compatibility with Google Home, many users or potential buyers wonder if this camera works with Google Home.

The answer is yes, the YI camera is compatible with Google Home and it has been designed to be linked and controlled with this third-party service without any problem.

How To Connect YI Camera To Google Home?

In this chapter, I will walk you through the steps to connect your YI camera to Google using your smartphone or tablet.

The first thing you need to do is set up the YI camera on the “YI Home app” which you can download from Play Store or App Store, then download the Google Home app and create an account.

Note: You can download the Google Home app using a Chromebook, or do it on Windows or Mac using an Android emulator such as BlueStacks.

After that follow these instructions to connect your YI camera to the Google Home app:

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. Log into your account.
  3. Then tap the “Add” button.
  4. Tap “Set up a new device”.
  5. Then select “Works with Google”.
  6. Go to the search bar and search for “YI Home Camera”, Then tap on it.
  7. Sign in to your “YI Home” account, then click on Authorize.
  8. Now you can see all your device linked to your YI account.
  9. Then the “Choose device” tab will appear, choose your YI camera to complete integration.
  10. Choose a home and room for the camera.
  11. Back to the Home screen to find your device.

After that, you can test if your YI camera is successfully connected to the Google app by using some voice commands to start and stop camera streaming. Here are the commands you can use:

  1. Use these commands to start streaming:
    • “Hey Google, Show me the (camera name)”.
    • “Okay Google, What’s on (camera name)”.
    • “Google, Play (camera name) on (Google display name)”.
    • “Hey Google, Show (camera name) on (Google display name)”.
  2. Use this command to stop streaming:
    • “Okay Google, Stop”.

Change The YI Camera Name.

If you have more than one camera and you’re going to control them using voice commands, I recommend giving each camera a different name to avoid confusion and make it easier for Google Home to identify which device you are talking about.

Here’s how to change the device name on the Home app:

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. Select the YI camera you want to edit.
  3. At the top right corner, tap Settings.
  4. Then the Device information and then the Device name.
  5. Enter a new name and tap Save.

Receive Notifications & Alerts Through Google Home.

It’s important to receive notifications and alerts on your Google Home app or on any of your Google speakers and displays when the YI camera detects suspicious motion and for that, you need to turn off Do Not Disturb mode. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. Select your speaker or display.
  3. Go to Settings and choose Notifications & digital wellbeing, then Do not disturb.
  4. Turn Do not disturb off.

How To Delete Your YI Home account from the Google Home app?

If you find that linking the YI cam to Google Home is worthless to you and you want to unlink your account from the Home app, here are the steps to follow:

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. Tap on the “+” icon at the top left corner.
  3. Select Set up a device, then choose “Works with Google”.
  4. On the account listed press “YI Home Camera” and select Unlink account.
  5. A popup message will appear, tap on Unlink.

Conclusion.

Connecting your YI Security Camera to Google Home will limit your interactions with the app as you’ll take control of the device using voice commands which may be great for those who are not comfortable with a mobile app.

This integration will also give you features like creating routines and allow you to centralize control of home devices from a single app.
