How To Fix Kwikset Lock Not Connecting To Wifi?

As mentioned earlier, there are many tips you can try to get your Kwikset lock back online, including restarting your router, increasing Wifi signal coverage, connecting to the right frequency, updating the lock firmware and much more.

In the next chapters, you’ll find all the details to easily implement these solutions and solve the problem from its root.

Solution 1: Reboot Your Router.

Based on my personal experience and past knowledge, the first step I recommend starting with when your Kwikset lock is experiencing connectivity issues is to reboot your router.

Rebooting your router can have an instant impact on your problem as this step will clean up the router’s cache to make it run more smoothly.

It will also help strengthen the Wifi signals and reduce frequency interference, which means a stronger connection to your devices including your Kwikset lock.

To reboot your router you need to follow these steps:

  1. Unplug the router from its power source (Remove the battery if you have a battery-powered router).
  2. Wait for 2 to 3 minutes.
  3. Plug the router back in.
  4. Wait for the Internet light to turn solid, then check if the internet is working properly.

Solution 2: Connect To The 2.4 GHz Channel.

Another major cause that frequently leads to connectivity issues is the device being connected to the wrong frequency, The Kwikset lock like many other household gadgets it was designed to work on the 2.4 GHz channel.

So if you have a dual-band router that broadcasts both 5 and 2.4 GHz channels, I recommend going to the router settings and temporarily disabling 5 GHz when connecting your lock.

Another thing you should do is reduce the frequency interference as the Wifi connection can be affected by other gadgets competing for the same wireless frequency which can impact your door lock proper connection.

Solution 3: Check Your Doorlock Firmware.

The next thing to do if the previous solutions didn’t work is to go check the firmware version of your Kwikset lock and make sure it’s updated to the latest version.

Why do we have to do this?

Firmware is the foundation of the software package that the Kwikset Lock uses for basic operations, and updating it will fix any bugs that might be causing your connectivity issues.

All you need to do is to follow the next instructions to update it:

  1. Open the Kwikset app within Bluetooth range of the lock (If a firmware update is available, a message will pop up on the screen).
  2. Tap “Update Now” to begin the updating process.
  3. Then Tap “Update Now” to update the firmware.
  4. The firmware download will begin (The green status bar indicates the download progress).
  5. A message will appear signifying that the firmware was successfully updated, Tap OK to continue.

Solution 4: Update Your Wifi Credentials.

Another reason that can cause the Kwikset lock to lose connection with your home network is forgetting to update your Wifi credentials on the lock app.

So if you’ve recently updated your router information such as your password, it’s important to also update it on your Kwikset lock to ensure it can successfully connect to your network.

Solution 5: Increase Your Wifi Signal.

To ensure your Kwikset lock stays connected, try increasing your Wifi signal strength, this will improve coverage throughout your home and keep your home gadgets online.

There are many ways to increase your Wifi signals including moving the router location, adding a Wifi range extender, or setting up a mesh network if you live in a big house.

Solution 6: Reset Your Lock.

The last thing I suggest doing if all the previous solutions haven’t moved the needle is to reset your Kwikset lock to its factory settings.

This troubleshooting trick is so effective that it can fix your internal bugs and errors that are causing your lock to fail and not connect properly to your Wifi.

Note: Resetting your device will delete all your settings and data inside the lock and the app.

Follow the next steps to perform a factory reset:

  1. Unlock and open the door.
  2. Then take off the smart lock cover and remove the battery.
  3. Reinsert the battery while pressing the Program button.
  4. Hold the button for 30 seconds.
  5. Release when the lock beeps and the status LED is red.
  6. Touch the Program button again.
  7. Wait for the LED to glimmer green and red.
