Blink cameras have grown in popularity over the past few years due to their smart security features such as 1080P video resolution, long battery life, voice control, remote monitoring, and more.

As we all know, it is possible to access the live stream and recorded clips of this type of security cam through your smartphone or tablet, but users want to know if they can do it through their TV.

The answer is yes watching the live feed & recorded clips on your TV is possible via different methods such as casting them from your mobile app to your TV in case you own Google Chromecast or an Apple TV, or using Amazon Fire TV or Fire Stick.

The next chapters of this article will show you in detail how to add this extra comfort function and enjoy watching your Blink cameras from your own TV.

Method 1: View Blink Cameras through fire TV.

Since Blink is owned by Amazon their products are compatible only with Alexa and you can rely on the voice commands offered by Alexa to watch the live feed on your Fire TV or Fire Stick but first, both devices (Blink & Fire TV) need to be connected to Alexa app.

You can follow the instructions in this article to connect your Blink cams to Alexa, and implement the steps below to connect to Fire TV:

  1. Launch the Alexa app on your mobile or tablet.
  2. Tap the hamburger menu in the top left corner and select Settings.
  3. Scroll down and select TV & Video.
  4. Then choose Fire TV.
  5. Select Link Your Alexa Device and follow the on-screen instructions.

When both gadgets are connected to Alexa app all you need to do to watch Blink live feed & control the cam from the Fire TV is to say some voice commands to your voice assistant using your mobile or smart speaker.

Here are the voice commands you can use:

  • “Alexa, show me my (camera name)”: this command will show you the live feed on your Fire TV.
  • “Alexa, ask Blink to get my status”
  • “Alexa, ask Blink when was the last motion clip”
  • “Alexa, ask Blink to disarm”
  • “Alexa, ask Blink how many motion clips do I have”

Important: With Fire TV, you can only watch the live feed from your Blink camera and you cannot view recorded clips.

Method 2: Mirror the screen of your iPhone, or iPad using the AirPlay protocol.

If you don’t have an Amazon Fire TV or Fire Stick this is another tip to view Blink cameras on your TV using Apple TV or AirPlay 2 compatible smart TV such as Samsung UHD 8, 7, 6 Series, Sony A9S series, LG OLED – RX, ZX, WX, GX, CX, BX series, Roku TV and many more.

Unlike the previous solution, this one allows you to view the live feed and recorded video clips.

This can be done through AirPlay which is a proprietary wireless communication protocol stack/suite developed by Apple Inc. that allows streaming between devices of audio, video, device screens, and photos, together with related metadata.

Note: This method requires you to have your Apple TV and iPhone or iPad to be connected to the same Wifi network.

Follow these instructions to mirror your iPhone & iPad screen on your Apple TV:

  1. Go to your iPhone or iPad and open the control center.
    • On iPhone X or later or iPad with iPadOS 13 or later: Swipe down from the upper-right corner of the screen.
    • On iPhone 8 or earlier or iOS 11 or earlier: Swipe up from the bottom edge of the screen.
  2. Tap Screen Mirroring.
  3. Select your Apple TV or AirPlay 2-compatible smart TV.
  4. If an AirPlay passcode appears on your TV screen or Mac, enter the passcode on your iPhone or iPad.
  5. Now go to the live feed or recorded clips on your Blink app to watch them on your TV.

To stop mirroring:

  1. Open control center.
  2. Tap Screen Mirroring, then choose Stop Mirroring.
  3. Or press the Menu button on your Apple TV Remote.

Method 3: Watch Blink camera on your TV using Chromecast.

You can also cast your Android phone on your TV when you have Google Chromecast this way you can watch your Blink live stream and recorded clips without any issue.

Casting your Android screen is available on devices running Android 5.0 or later and you need to have your tablet and mobile connected to the same network as your Chromecast.

Note: The “Microphone” permission in the Google Play Services app needs to be turned on to successfully use the “Cast Screen / Audio” feature with Chromecast.

Here’s how to cast your Android screen to Chromecast to watch Blink videos on your TV:

  1. Launch the Google Home app on your Android mobile or tablet.
  2. Click on the device you want to cast your screen to.
  3. Select Cast my screen.
  4. Then Cast screen.
  5. Now go to the Blink app and launch the video you want to watch.

To stop casting:

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. Tap your device.
  3. Then Stop mirroring.

Method 4: Play the recorded clips stored on the USB drive on your TV.

Blink cameras stored video on the cloud when you’re a subscriber, but it can give you the possibility to store footage locally by saving video directly to the USB drive attached to your Sync Module 2.

If you store clips locally on a USB drive, you will have the ability to watch them on your TV by connecting the USB drive to your TV and playing the content stored there.

Last thought.

Even if the Blink camera is compatible with Alexa devices like Fire TV and Fire Stick, which makes it the easiest way to watch the live feed using voice commands but the inability to watch recorded clips makes Chromecast and Apple TV a better option.
