Connect Arlo doorbell to Alexa.

In the following sections of this blog post, you’ll learn all that you have to do in order to pair your video doorbell with Alexa.

Before doing anything make sure to disable the Silent Mode in the Arlo app, and here’s how to do it:

  1. Open the Arlo app on your smartphone or tablet or log in to your Arlo account at this website.
  2. Tap Settings, then choose My Devices.
    3.Select your Arlo Doorbell.
  3. Alternatively, tap or click the Settings icon for your Arlo Video Doorbell on the Devices screen.
  4. Tap or click Silent Mode.
  5. Move the Silent Mode slider to disable silent mode.

After that turn Off “Do Not Disturb” mode on the Alexa app:

  1. Go to the Alexa app on your mobile or tablet.
  2. Open Devices.
  3. Choose Echo & Alexa.
  4. Select your device.
  5. Select Do Not Disturb, then turn “Do Not Disturb” off.

Now you need to activate “Arlo skill” on Alexa to be able to see the live feed and use voice command when the doorbell is connected to Alexa:

  1. Check if your Arlo camera is powered on and connected to the cloud.
  2. Ask Alexa “Alexa, enable Arlo skill” to receive instructions in the app to link your Arlo account with your Alexa account.
  3. Or you can go to the Alexa app and search for the “Arlo Skill”, then click Enable Skill to link your Arlo account with your Alexa account.

After turning Off the “Silent Mode” and the “Do Not Disturb” mode and enabling “Arlo Skill” you can enable the Arlo doorbell on your Alexa by following the next instructions:

  1. Open the Alexa app.
  2. Click on the Devices icon at the lower right corner of the app.
  3. Then select All Devices.
  4. Select your Arlo Doorbell from the list of devices. The Settings page displays.
  5. Then choose the type of announcements you want to receive on Alexa.
  6. Choose “Motion Announcements” if you want Alexa to announce when motion is detected by your doorbell.
  7. Or choose “Doorbell Press Announcements” if you want Alexa announcing when someone presses your doorbell.

Configure Arlo doorbell routine on Alexa app.

On the Alexa app, you can set the days or period when the doorbell will ring on Alexa-enabled devices, you can also set the time Alexa will wait before running the routine again. here’s how to do that:

  1. Open the Alexa app.
  2. Tap the hamburger menu, then choose Routines.
  3. hit the + button on the top right.
  4. Click on “When this happens”, then tap the device icon.
  5. Then choose your doorbell.
  6. Tap on the button “change” that appears above the “Add action” button.
  7. from there you can change Active days and times, and set the duration between routines depending on your preferences.

from the same screen, you can set what Alexa will say when someone rings the doorbell. follow the next instructions to do it:

  1. Tap “Add action” on the same routine screen.
  2. Then select “Alexa says”.
  3. Choose “custom”.
  4. type the response you want to hear when someone rings the doorbell for example, “someone is at the front door”.
  5. Tap “Next”, Then “Add”.

If you have smart lights inside your home that works with Alexa such as Philips Hue lights you can set them to change their color when someone rings the doorbell:

  1. On the same routine screen tap “Add action”.
  2. Scroll down and select “Smart Home”.
  3. Select “Control Device”.
  4. Choose your home lights.
  5. Turn the power On, set the color you want, and adjust the brightness.
    6.click “Next”.

Arm and disarm Arlo doorbell with Alexa?

It’s possible to arm and disarm your Arlo doorbell via Alexa using voice commands when it’s connected to a compatible SmartHub and base station.

First, you need to set up an Assistant PIN that you must say when asking Alexa to disarm your device, and here’s how to get it:

  1. Open the Arlo app or log in to your Arlo account at my.arlo.com.
  2. Select Settings > Profile > Assistant PIN.
  3. Enter a four-digit PIN.
  4. Reenter the PIN to confirm it.

Your PIN is now set up, make sure that you can remember it.

Now you need to set up the Assistant PIN with Alexa:

  1. Ask Alexa to “discover devices.”
  2. In the Alexa app, select your newly discovered SmartHub or base station and enable the Disarm by voice toggle.
  3. In the detail view, select Existing security system.

Say the following commands to Alexa when you want to arm or disarm your Arlo doorbell:

  • “Alexa, arm.”: Alexa arms the devices connected to this SmartHub or base station.
  • “Alexa, disarm.”: Alexa asks for your PIN. After you say the correct Assistant PIN, Alexa disarms the devices connected to this SmartHub or base station.
