Many people like to monitor their front door to know who is visiting their home when they are away, and a smart video doorbell is a good device to install to achieve this goal and make your home safer.

Eufy doorbells are one of these gadgets that provide many features such as 2K video resolution, motion, face and human detection, a strong battery that can last up to 6 months, and many more other functions.

This device relies on the internet to function properly, but users face situations where the Eufy doorbell goes offline, so they’re asking why this happens?

The answer is there are many things that may cause this gadget to lose access to the internet like the HomeBase or router is offline due to a power outage, The HomeBase and the router or the doorbell are so far from each other so it can’t get Wifi signals, you changed your router password and didn’t update it in your HomeBase and doorbell, your Ethernet cable is damaged.

In this blog post, we are going to explore all tips and tricks you can try in order to get your Eufy video doorbell back online.

Troubleshoot offline Eufy doorbell.

According to Eufy, A small number of customers reported that the doorbell went offline or disappeared from the App when it was installed in the mounting bracket. It is very likely that the screw is too long to withstand the SYNC button. Please make sure if you use the original screws to install the battery doorbell in the package.

In the following sections of this article, you can find all that you need to know to troubleshoot the connectivity issues of this gadget.

Check your internet subscription.

The first thing to start with is to make sure that your internet subscription hasn’t expired yet and check if the internet is working on other devices such as your smartphone or tablet to see if the issue is coming only from your doorbell or the HomeBase.

Make sure that has enough battery.

If the battery is critically low the device would not perform at its best and can’t draw the maximum possible wireless signal strength. So make sure to recharge your battery when it will send you a notification about that.

Check your Ethernet cable.

This cable is used to connect the router or modem with your HomeBase and if your connection keeps dropping or runs very slowly, there are chances that you have a damaged cable, So changing it may solve the problem.

Power cycle your HomeBase.

Power cycling is the process of turning hardware off and then turning it on again, and this step may help you if your Eufy doorbell loses internet connection. And here’s how to do that:

  1. Unplug the AC power adapter from the wall outlet.
  2. Press the little round button at the backside of the HomeBase short and once.
  3. Wait up to 1 minute.
  4. Then plug in the AC power adapter again and turn on your HomeBase.

Power cycle your modem and router.

Sometimes the problem may come from the router or modem and the power cycling process allows them to reset and re-establish a connection to your ISP, also get the most out of your internet plan.

Follow the next instruction to power cycle them:

  1. Shut down the doorbell connected to the modem/router.
  2. Power down and unplug the modem and the router if you’re using one.
  3. Wait for 1 minute.
  4. Plug in and turn on the modem and router, and allow them to completely boot up until the front panel connection lights on the modem show a steady connection.

Note: If your modem has a battery backup, you will need to take the battery out.

Move the router closer to the HomeBase and doorbell.

According to Eufy, the HomeBase can be 50ft from the WI-Fi router and 20-30ft from the doorbell. The actual range will vary depending on a number of factors such as the thickness of walls, obstacles inside the house, and the location of the router.

So moving your router closer to the HomeBase will increase the possibility of getting a better Wifi signal, and if you’re using a Eufy model that connects directly to the router without relying on a HomeBase so move the router close to the doorbell (the router can be 30ft from the wired doorbell).

Add an extender or set up a mesh network.

If you’re living in a big house and the Wifi signals can’t cover all your home, a WiFi extender is a perfect solution as it is used to extend the coverage area of your WiFi network and allow it to reach all your connected devices including your doorbell.

A mesh network is also considered a good solution when you’re facing coverage issues, allowing for faster speeds, better reliability, and greater wireless coverage of your home than a conventional router would.

I recommend NetGear as an extender and Google Mesh or TP-link Deco as a mesh network.

Reset your modem and router.

This process can be helpful in order to get your device back online, once you reset the router and modem all the settings will be reverted to their factory defaults.

Reset the router.

  1. Make sure the router is powered on.
  2. Pick a paperclip or a needle and hold down the Reset button at the back of the router for 30 seconds.
  3. Release the Reset button and wait 30 seconds for the router to fully reset and power back on.

Reset the modem.

  1. Keep your modem plugged in.
  2. Find the modem’s Reset button.
  3. Press and hold the button with a paperclip.
  4. Release the button when the modem lights start to flicker.
  5. Wait for the Internet light to turn green.

Reset the HomeBase.

If the previous solution didn’t get your device back online you can go and reset the HomeBase and see if it solve the issue.

Here’s how to factory reset your Eufy HomeBase:

  1. Make sure the HomeBase is powered On.
  2. Press and hold the Cycle hole at the back of the HomeBase.
  3. Keep holding until you hear “HomeBase is resetting”.

Note: If you proceed with the reset process, you’ll have to reconnect the device to the app. Save important videos recorded by your doorbell before resetting.

Reset your video doorbell.

Resetting your doorbell can also solve the connectivity issue, but make sure to download the important recorded video before resetting it.

  1. Check if your doorbell is powered On.
  2. Find the reset button at the back of the device.
  3. press and hold this button for 10-12 seconds.
  4. Then you’ll see a yellow light on the doorbell wait 30 seconds to finish its resetting.

If your doorbell is already installed on the door frame or on the wall, please use a paper clip to detach the doorbell from the mounting bracket. Then you will be able to see the reset button located on the back of the device.

Don’t forget to reconnect the doorbell to the app after the resetting process is completed.

Update the device firmware.

Eufy releases new updates for their devices including doorbells and HomeBase and these updates make the device work better and can avoid connectivity problems, so make sure to have the last firmware update in your devices.

You can check the firmware version on the app:

  1. Slide the side menu.
  2. Go to “My Devices”.
  3. Select the Device.
  4. Tap on Devices Settings.
  5. About Device.
  6. System Version.

Check the bandwidth and Wifi interference.

If you don’t have enough bandwidth inside your home the doorbell may face connectivity issues.

So turn off all connected gadgets such as your computer, TV, and smartphone and see if your doorbell is back online. upgrading your internet plan may be a good solution.

Many devices may interfere with your doorbell and cause connectivity issues as they operate on the same frequency, move these gadgets to another place and don’t use them next to your doorbell.

Make sure to connect on 2.4Ghz.

Eufy doorbells and HomeBase work on 2.4GHz so make sure to connect them on this channel, fortunately nowadays all routers support both frequencies (2.4 and 5 GHz).

Updates your Wifi password.

For some reason, you may change your Wifi network password, but make sure to update this password on the HomeBase and the doorbell in order to be able to connect.

Final words.

These are all the tips you can use when your doorbell loses internet connection, you can call customer support if you face additional issues.
