In this article, I’ll show you different tips and tricks that I’ve prepared for you to fix your Wemo Smart Plug when it’s not detected.

So keep reading.

How To Fix Wemo Smart Plug Not Detected?

As mentioned above, there are different tricks to fix your outlet detection problem. In this article, I have prepared 9 that I find effective and that will make your plug work again.

Trick 1: Make Sure Your Wifi Is Enabled.

When this problem occurs and you notice that your Wemo plug is not detected, the first thing I suggest checking is the Wifi of your mobile.

Typically, you control the outlet using the Wemo app on your smartphone, so make sure your phone’s Wifi is on and working properly.

To be sure that the network is working properly on your smartphone, try to search the web.

If you don’t see any problem while searching the web, it means that the issue isn’t within your mobile. Proceed to the next solution to get more tips.

Trick 2: Power Cycle The Wemo Smart Plug.

The second solution is to power cycle your smart plug, this step consists of turning off the Wemo outlet and then turning it back on after a few seconds.

This process is widely known to technicians as the first troubleshooting tip when a device is not working and it can be effective in fixing internal bugs and errors that are causing problems to your gadget.

All you have to do is unplug the Wemo plug from the wall outlet and wait a few seconds, then plug your device back in.

Trick 3: Reboot Your Router.

If power cycling your outlet didn’t have an impact and your device is still not detected, I recommend rebooting your router and see if it moves the needle.

Rebooting your router is easy to do, and it has many benefits that can help your Wemo outlet work again, including bug fixes, stronger WiFi signals, improve internet speed, and much more.

All you need to do is turn off the router for 60 seconds and then turn it back on.

Trick 4: Enable The 2.4 GHz Frequency.

The Wemo smart plug operates on the 2.4 GHz frequency, if you own a dual-band router and you see the Wemo plug not being detected, make sure the 2.4 GHz channel is already enabled.

Disable the 5 GHz frequency if this is your first time connecting the Wemo plug to your Wifi and turn it on once the Wemo plug is properly connected.

Trick 5: Reduce Wifi Interference.

Another reason that can trigger this issue is Wi-Fi interference, it will impact the Wifi signals and prevent it from reaching the outlet which will lead to detection issues.

Interference can be caused by other wireless devices that operate on the 2.4 GHz frequency such as cordless phones, Bluetooth devices, and wireless security cameras.

The solution is to turn these devices off when not in use or move them to another location so they don’t interfere with your outlet.

Trick 6: Update The Wemo App.

The Wemo plug is set up and managed through the Wemo app, so if there is an issue with the app, it may impact the plug.

This means that your Wemo smart plug may not be detected due to an internal problem with its app.

So what I recommend here is to check if there is a new update for your app, and if there is, be sure to update it.

Updating your Wemo app will fix bugs and errors that affect app, as well as improve performance, and give you access to the latest features.

Trick 7: Reinstall The Wemo App.

If your app is already updated and there is no new update, I suggest you delete the Wemo app from your device and then reinstall it.

This process may seem inefficient, but experts often recommend reinstalling an app when it encounters problems.

Here are the steps to follow:

  1. Locate the Wemo app on your launcher and long-press it.
  2. Tap the Uninstall button to remove the app from your device (phone or tablet).
  3. Then go to The Play Store or Apple Store to install the app again.

Trick 8: Factory Reset Your Wemo Smart Plug.

The last solution you can do is to factory reset your plug, this trick can help you solve your detection problem if all the previous ones failed.

There are two ways to implement this process, the first via the app and the second directly from the outlet.

A factory reset via the Wemo app:

  1. Open the Wemo app on your mobile.
  2. Go to the Devices screen.
  3. Tap Edit on the upper right corner of the screen.
  4. Tap your Wemo plug.
  5. Tap Reset Options and select Factory Restore.

Factory reset directly from the device:

  1. Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds while the Wemo outlet is unplugged.
  2. While pressing the power button, plug in the device to the power outlet.
  3. Release the power button when you see the status light turn to a rapid white light.

Trick 9: Contact Customer Support.

If all the solutions cited in this article didn’t work for you then maybe your unit is damaged.

I suggest contacting customer support and they’ll tell you more about the problem and maybe they can change your device if it’s under warranty.

Last Words.
